Lacey and I were already halfway committed to the urgency of being out.
Shoes half on. Keys somewhere between the counter and an assumed accusation. It felt dramatic in the way only small inconveniences can feel dramatic. AKA – pain in the ass….
That’s when I saw it.
A pack of OG Kush from Sugarleaf Co., sitting there like it had been patient with us. Just waiting and holding onto the small corner of my desk that it settled into.
We stopped… Funny how something so simple can interrupt momentum. But it does.
We were chasing relief and there it was. OG Kush, the old name that built half this industry before branding departments learned how to spell “exotic.”
OG Kush. Gotta love it.
You say it and you already know what it’s supposed to be.
We cut it open instead of grabbing the keys. The smell didn’t jump out trying to impress us. It leaned in. Pine. Earth. That steady, familiar fuel note that feels less like a flavor and more like a memory. A time when weed was weed and politics were never mentioned unless it was over deep conspiracy theory claims. The “fun” ones.
The Look
The bud structure told its own story. Dense but breathing. No spray-on fake flavors or terps. It looked like someone let it finish instead of rushing it to make payroll.
The Moment It Lands
First inhale and the room softened. Just enough to make the emergency feel nonexistent. Shoulders dropped. Thoughts slowed into full sentences instead of bullet points. Lacey laughed at something that probably wasn’t as funny in reality. but it didn’t matter. I laughed too.
We were set back.
In a good way.
There’s a difference between being high and being settled. Familiar OG balance. My head clear enough to think, body calm enough to stay put. This plant was never meant to be consumed quickly.
Respect Over Reinvention
Sugarleaf Co. didn’t reinvent anything here. They respected it. In a market obsessed with novelty, that feels almost rebellious and even aggressive. Sometimes the most interesting thing you can do is get out of the way and grow it the way it’s supposed to be grown.
We did eventually leave the house. Because we were ready. And that’s a small distinction that feels bigger and better than any rush.
Tip O’ the hat to Sugarleaf Co.
